What is JHU CTY Talent Search?
The JHU CTY Talent Search for grades 2 – 8 is the gateway to the various CTY’s highly regarded summer programs, online courses, and other services and resources designed for advanced young learners. It is also a tool that helps the academically gifted students to receive well deserved public recognition. All students who accept the challenge of taking the Talent Search test receive a Certificate of Participation. Top Talent Search students attend award ceremonies in 14 states and the very top students can attend a national medal ceremony at Johns Hopkins University.
CTY recommends the Talent Search for students who exhibit outstanding academic talent based on the following criteria:
Nationally normed testing
State testing (MCAS “Advanced” performance levels)
Superior academic performance
In order to participate in the Talent Search a student should complete and submit a Talent Search application to the CTY and take an above-grade-level-test that provides specific information about a child’s reasoning abilities. To qualify for the program, students in grades 2-5 are required to take the SCAT test. Students in grades 5-6 can choose between SCAT or STB. While both SCAT and STB are also available for the older students, the CTY primary tests for students in grades seven and eight are the SAT or the ACT. Both tests objectively measure the reading and mathematical abilities that a student has developed within and outside of the school. The SAT is administered by the College Board. The ACT is administered by the company of the same name. Both tests generally taken by the college-bound high school juniors and seniors and are scheduled at the local schools on the specific national administration days. Students who test and earn eligible scores before February 1 enjoy a wider range of Summer Programs course options and have a better chance of receiving Summer Programs financial aid. How to participate in JHU CTY Talent Search?
To participate in JHU CTY Talent Search a student must:
Complete a Talent Search application: http://cty.jhu.edu/talent/about. MathAltitude students should use our school name MathAltitude School of Mathematics, and code 0160904.
After applying to the Talent Search, CTY will send information about your choice of tests. Choose your test, register with the testing agency, and pay the test fee (fees range from $35-75). You can register with the testing agency either on-line or by mail (please let us know if you want to choose the latter option for ACT and we’ll print you a form). Request that your child’s score is sent to CTY. You can do it by choosing 5334 the four-digit code number for the college or agency. Choose either “I did not find my school code” or 975-334 for ACT or 000003 for SAT. This will prevent the testing agency to send the score to any high school and redirect it to CTY.
Take the test. After testing, you'll be notified when results are available in MyCTY. In MyCTY, in addition to your child's scores, you can also find your child's qualification letter as well as information on re-testing and reporting test scores to schools.

Our Online Workshops to prepare for ACT / SAT
In order to assist the 7th and 8th graders who want to take ACT or SAT as a qualifier for the Talent Search this year, MathAltitude offers Online ACT ~ SAT Preparation workshops starting in February1.
Workshops will be held on Sundays, 5:45-7:45 -
SAT Prep - February 19, 26, March 5
ACT Prep - March 26, April 2, 9
Fees: $15 per single workshop for MathAltitude students, $35 per workshop for non-MathAltitude students.
Registration is required. Register on-line. All classes are limited to 8 students and are served on a first come first served basis.
